USMMA Gets Back Above .500 For First Time Since Opener With “Game 142” Victory

KINGS POINT, N.Y - The United States Merchant Marine Academy men's lacrosse program has clawed all the way back above the surface to a winning record for the first time since the season opening win over Anna Maria on February 25, slaying the Knights 13-5 during its "142 Game".

The 13 goals scored by the men in Blue and Gray was the lowest output in a Mariners win this season while it's five scored given up is tied for the best defensive performance of 2023.

Jack DeTommaso (Massapequa, N.Y.) led both the Knights and the Mariners in goals (3) plus assists (2) which coincided with a season-best five points.

Jack Collins (Memphis, Tenn.) needed four points on the evening to join the illustrious 100-point club but fell just shy, registering three for his two helpers and a score to sit at 99 with three-plus contests left.

Dom Mirack (Stevensville, Md.) was the game's top fielder of ground balls at six while Sam Winkler (Moorestown, N.J.) was the only Merchant Marine student-athlete with multiple caused turnovers, the first time he's ever had more than one in his career.

Samuel Stephenson (Boca Raton, Fla.) logged a save percentage of 63.6% en route to the win over 51:42, Tucker Swinerton (Weston, Fla.) snagged a pair of saves in three-and-a-half minutes, and Coby Schwartz (Pittsburgh, Pa.) stopped a season-high three shots in just under five minutes.

Kings Point still has an outside shot at the regular season title if they win their final two games at Purchase and vs. SJLI while SUNY Maritime drops both contests at Mount Saint Vincent as well as Mount St. Mary.
