THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 1, 2023) – The USMMA men's lacrosse team got off 64 shots compared to the Privateers' 38 but could only place nine in the back of the net as SUNY Maritime protected its home turf with a 10-9 win in both teams' conference opener.

Merchant Marine won in most places on the stat sheet but not on the scoreboard, launching three more shots-on-goal (26-23), four more ground balls (40-36), won four more faceoffs (13-9), and capitalized on one of its two man-up situations.
Three Blue and Gray clad visitors took double-digit shot attempts with
William Badeer leading the attack at 18 as the duo of
Michael Emerick and
Carter Hall both had 12.
Badeer and Emerick were each responsible for a team-high three goals scored with one of the former's being a man-up while
Jack Collins notched a pair of assists.
Samuel Stephenson stopped more goals than he allowed for the fifth time in nine matchups, recording 13 saves opposed to ten scores.
Dom Mirack led the Mariners in both ground balls (7) and caused turnovers (3), both season-highs as
Mark Bredeck tied him for the team lead in grounders which marked a new career benchmark.
King's Point will partake in game two of its local New York road trip on Saturday, April 8 at Farmingdale State for a 1 p.m. start.
The Academy will need to have a short memory and out this game in the rearview mirror quickly as Skyline play begins on Saturday, April 1 when they travel to Throggs Neck for a tussle with SUNY Maritime at 1 p.m. inside Reinhart Field. Live links for the game can be found on
