Mariners Can’t Slow Down (RV) Engineers

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (March 29, 2023) – The USMMA men's lacrosse team hung with a high-powered MIT squad who was receiving two votes in the USILA's week 7 top-20 poll for the opening quarter, but the Engineers broke the contest open with a seven-goal second quarter to pull away for a 19-3 win.

Four separate student-athletes put points on the board for the Merchant Marine Academy as Sam Winkler, Jack Meyer, and Carter Hall scored goals while Jack Collins assisted on Meyer's opening frame score.

On the defensive end, Mark Bredeck caused a pair of turnovers with Maverick Geller, Sal Castellano plus Erich Diehl all notched one.

Chris Neuman was responsible for eight face-off victories and Meyer topped the team in ground balls at four.

The Academy will need to have a short memory and out this game in the rearview mirror quickly as Skyline play begins on Saturday, April 1 when they travel to Throggs Neck for a tussle with SUNY Maritime at 1 p.m. inside Reinhart Field. Live links for the game can be found on the USMMA Men's Lacrosse Schedule Page.
