NEW YORK (Oct. 21, 2023) – Playing in its final tri-match of the season, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's volleyball team lost a pair of non-conference contests to Hunter (3-2) and Ramapo (3-0) on Saturday at the Hawks' Hunter Sportsplex in Manhattan. The defeats drop the Mariners' record to 12-9 overall on the season.

Senior Brittany Breland (Bryan, Texas) led the Mariners in kills in both matches with 15 in the five-set loss to Hunter and eighth in the sweep at the hands of the Roadrunners. In the opener, she also recorded a double-double with 10 digs. Freshman setter Alexa Tipps (Palmdale, Calif.) had 33 assists in the first match vs. the Hawks and 16 against Ramapo, while sophomore libero Stephanie Schatzman (Virginia Beach, Va.) picked up 25 digs against Hunter and senior Meredith Buchanan (Kathleen, Ga.) led the Mariners in digs against the Roadrunners with seven.
 
Up next, the Mariners will travel to Farmingdale State on Tuesday night, Oct. 24, for a Skyline showdown with the Rams. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. Live stats and a live video feed of the match will be available on the USMMA Women's Volleyball Schedule Page.
