BRONX, N.Y. (Oct. 10, 2023) – For the first time this season, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's volleyball team is above .500, as the Mariners won their fourth-straight match on Tuesday night over rival SUNY Maritime, 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-15). USMMA now sits at 8-7 overall (5-1 Skyline), while the Privateers drop to 5-10 (2-4 Skyline).

Senior Meredith Buchanan (Kathleen, Ga.) and freshman Alexa Tipps (Palmdale, Calif.) both produced double-double performances, as Buchanan had 12 kills and tied for the match-high with 12 digs and Tipps led all players with 30 assists, while also picking up 10 digs.
 
Senior Brittany Breland (Bryan, Texas) put down a match-high 13 kills on a .360 hitting, while classmate Amy Jones (Roscoe, Ill.) recorded eight kills to go along with a match-best four blocks. Sophomore libero Stephanie Schatzman (Virginia Beach, Va.) registered 10 digs, five assists and four service aces, which led all players on the night.
 
For the Privateers, senior Jessica Mele led the way offensively with nine kills and freshman Ashley Pavarini just missed out on a double-double with nine assists and a team-high 10 digs. She also added five assists.
