Lauren Hunter (Tinley Park, Ill.) recorded her ninth double-double of the season and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's basketball team used a 22-6 third quarter to roll past Sarah Lawrence, 73-48. Hunter finished with 26 points and 12 rebounds as the Mariners improved to 11-2 (7-2 Skyline). Sarah Lawrence saw its record move to 5-6 (3-3 Skyline).

Bryanne Buchanan-Cummings (Dacula, Ga.) scored nine points and sophomore
Grace Jackson (Parma, Idaho) added eight points for the Mariners, who had nine different players enter the scoring column. USMMA shot 36.3 percent (29-of-80) from the floor, scored 44 points in the paint, and posted a +18 margin (56-38) on the glass. Kendall Haymore had a 15-point, 12-rebound double-double for the Gryphons, who shot 34.9 percent (22-of-63) from the field.
A back-and-forth first quarter saw neither team lead by more than two points until a Hunter free throw gave the Mariners an 11-8 advantage at the 2:08 mark. Jackson soon pushed the lead to seven with fastbreak buckets on consecutive possessions, both of which were started with her own steals on the other end of the floor.
USMMA stretched the lead to double-figures for the first time with 7:37 remaining in the second quarter as a Hunter layup made it a 25-15 ballgame. The Gryphons twice cut the lead to eight before a Buchanan-Cummings jumper and a pair of free throws by sophomore
Kaira Winston (Chesterfield, Va.) extended the advantage to 12. A jumper from freshman
Hannah Ramsden (Port Arkansas, Texas) in the closing seconds gave USMMA a 39-24 lead at halftime.
The Mariners led 45-27 with 6:55 left in the third before sophomore
Abby Stramski (Jones, Okla.) made back-to-back 3-pointers to cap a quick 10-0 run that saw the lead balloon to 28 points, 55-27. Sarah Lawrence snapped the rally with a 3-pointer, but USMMA scored the final six points in the frame and took a 61-30 lead into the final quarter.

Cevyn Crutcher (Huntsville, Ala.) gave USMMA its largest lead of the game, 64-32, at the 9:00 mark of the fourth. The Gryphons still trailed by 29 with 6:13 left before using an 8-0 run to trim the deficit to 21 with just 2:01 to play. The Mariners, however, responded with a 6-0 run of their own.
USMMA returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 14, with a 3 p.m. road game against Old Westbury. The contest will be played at Farmingdale State College. Any live links for the game will be post on
