FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (Jan. 15, 2023) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's basketball team used a 30-0 third quarter to easily get past Old Westbury, 77-31, on Saturday in a Skyline Conference game played at Farmingdale State College. The victory improved the Mariners' record to 12-2 (8-2 Skyline), while the Panthers fell to 0-12 (0-9 Skyline) in defeat.

Lauren Hunter (Tinley Park, Ill.) drained 31 points to lead all players, while junior
Bryanne Buchanan-Cummings (Dacula, Ga.) and sophomore
Grace Jackson (Parma, Idaho) added 11 points each, while also both tying for the game-high with eight rebounds apiece. Sophomore
Kaira Winston (Chesterfield, Va.) added six points, nine assists and five steals and classmate
Abby Stramski (Jones, Okla.) drained eight points.

The Mariners' never trailed in the game and led pretty much from opening tipoff until the final buzzer. The visitors' lead reach 20 points late in the first quarter and only fell below 20 for the latter part of the second quarter, but the game was never close.

Junior Allysha Thomas scored a team-best 10 points for Old Westbury, while also leading the Panthers with seven rebounds.

The Mariners are back in action on Monday, Jan. 16, when they travel to Brooklyn, N.Y., to take on non-conference opponent Medgar Evers. Action is scheduled to get underway at 5 p.m. at the Cougars Cave. Any live links for the game will be posted on
