WEST POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 7, 2023) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy track & field team competed at Army's West Point Open on Friday, the Mariners' second meet of the season and the first of the New Year. No team scores were kept at the meet, but Merchant Marine had a number of notable finishes.

Top performances on the men's side included a pair of first-place finishes by freshman
Luke Zwiesler (Colbert, Wash.) in the mile run in 4:32.52 and
Silas Glynn (Folsom, Calif.) in the 800m with a time of 2:00.12. Fellow freshman
Isaac Clark (Weddington, N.C.) was right behind Zweisler in the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:32.87 and sophomore
Konnor Bye (Liberty Hill, Texas) placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 12.52m (41' 1").
For the women, two seniors went back-to-back in the 800m run –
Sayra Raya (Wasco, Calif.) finished first with a time of 2:34.71, while
Skyler Burnham (Reading, Pa.) came in second in 2:55.04. Raya also placed second in the mile (5:49.90), while senior
Kira Porzio (Palo Cedro, Calif.) finished in third place in the high jump with a mark of 1.65m (5' 5").
