NEWBURGH, N.Y. (Jan. 5, 2023) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's basketball team saw its seven-game win-streak come to an end, as the Mariners suffered a 78-51 road loss at Mount St. Mary on Thursday night. The setback drops USMMA's record to 10-2 (6-2 Skyline), while the Knights improve to 8-3 (5-1 Skyline) with the victory.

Hannah Ramsden (Port Aransas, Texas) and senior
Lauren Hunter (Tinley Park, Ill.) tied for the team-high in scoring with 13 points apiece. Ramsden brought down seven rebounds and was 6-for-6 from the free-throw line, while Hunter had six boards. Sophomore
Grace Jackson (Parma, Idaho) chipped in with 11 points, and senior
Madison Demos (Downers Grove, Ill.) contributed six points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Mariners had an early lead in the game, 11-8, at 6:49 of the first quarter, but the Knights responded with a 12-3 run to make it 20-13 at 2:34. Early in the second quarter, the hosts' advantage hit double-digits and only fell below two more times in the stanza, before staying above 10 the entire second half.
Mount St. Mary took advantage of 26 USMMA turnovers and was able to cash in with 25 points off turnovers to the Mariners' seven points off of the Knights' 12 TOs. MSMC shot 42.9-percent from the field, while holding USMMA to 34.6-percent.
For the Knights, grad. student Katie Smith led all players on the night with 25 points, while classmate Asia Rivera added 16 points. Junior Kate Hughes recorded a team-best six rebounds.
The Mariners return to action this Saturday, Jan. 7, when they travel up to Bronxville, N.Y., to take on Skyline opponent Sarah Lawrence. Tipoff is scheduled for 12-noon as the Gryphons Campbell Sports Center. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on
