KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 21, 2022) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's volleyball team defeated Skyline-rival Farmingdale State College in straight sets (25-20, 26-24, 25-22) on Wednesday night in front of energetic crowd at the Liebertz Gymnasium. The victory improved the Mariners' record to 5-3 (2-0 Skyline), while the Rams fall to 1-4 (0-1 Skyline) in defeat.

Meredith Buchanan (Kathleen, Ga.) led all players on the night with 15 kills, while hitting at a .243 clip, picking up six digs and putting down two assisted blocks. Seniors
Paige Smith (Virginia Beach, Va.) and
Claire Hyun (Issaquah, Wash.) both recorded double-doubles, as Smith had 10 kills and tied for the match-high with 18 digs and Hyun dished out 34 assists and picked up 15 digs.

Skyler Burnham (Reading, Pa.) chipped in defensively with 15 digs, and freshman
Stephanie Schatzman (Virginia Beach, Va.) had nine digs, including some big ones in key moments of the final set, while junior
Brittany Breland (Bryan, Texas) added to the offense with eight kills on a team-best .300 hitting percentage.
For the Rams, sophomore Mikayla Profeta put down 11 kills and had her hand in three blocks (all assisted), as she fired at a match-best .348 hitting percentage. Junior Kalena Ricketts also had double-digit kills with 10, and two players recorded double-digit dig nights, senior libero Madisyn Pozo with 18 and senior Kate Flamio with 12.
The Mariners return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 27, when they travel up to The Bronx to take on another Skyline-rival, Mount St. Vincent. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Dolphins' Peter Jay Sharp Center. Live stats and a live video feed of the match will be available with links on
