NEW YORK (Sept. 19, 2022) – The USMMA women's volleyball team quickly took care of business in its Skyline Conference-opener over Yeshiva on Monday night in a match played at Baruch College's ARC Arena. The Mariners swept the Macs, 25-9, 25-8, 25-12, to end their three-match losing streak and improve their record to 4-3 (1-0 Skyline), while YU falls to 0-9 (0-7 Skyline) in defeat.

Brittany Breland (Bryan, Texas) recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs, while senior
Paige Smith (Virginia Beach, Va.) just missed out on one, registering 11 kills and nine digs. Sophomore
Elizabeth Kay (Charleston, W.Va.) contributed nine kills and led all players in the night with a .533 hitting percentage, while senior setter
Claire Hyun (Issaquah, Wash.) dished out 36 assist. Senior libero
Skyler Burnham (Reading, Pa.) picked up a match-high 15 digs on the night.

For Yeshiva, Gabrielle Kupferman had a team-best three kills, while Ashley Botnick picked up 13 digs and Shany Elmaleh contributed defensively with nine digs. The Maccabees hit just .057 in the match.

Merchant Marine used an 11-0 advantage in service aces to help move the match along quickly. Five different players had two aces each.

The Mariners will finally play their first home match of the season this Wednesday night, Sept. 21, when they host Skyline rival Farmingdale State. Opening serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Liebertz Gymnasium. Live stats and a live video feed of the match will be available with links on
