KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 19, 2022) – On Monday, the NEWMAC Conference announced the weekly award winners for Week 3 of the football season and a pair of USMMA seniors were recognized for their efforts in the Mariners' 48-13 home win over SUNY Maritime this past Saturday. Fullback Matthew Savard (Orlando, Fla.) earned Offensive Athlete of the Week honors, while linebacker Daniel Falzone (Medford, N.J.) was named the Defensive Athlete of the Week
 
Savard rushed for a game-high 177 yards on 25 carries and found the end zone three times in the victory. He opened the scoring by cashing in on the Mariners' first drive of the day with a one-yard run, closed out the first half with a four-yard TD and then opened the scoring in the second half with a two-yard score.
 
Falzone forced two key fumbles in the first half on Saturday. He also added two tackles, including one for a loss of two yards. His second forced turnover, which came in the second quarter, led to what wound up being the game-winning score for Merchant Marine. Falzone also blocked an extra point in the first quarter, which got called back on a USMMA penalty, but the PAT pass that followed failed for the Privateers.
