Mariners Earn A Draw Against Yeshiva On Sunday Night, 2-2

TEANECK, N.J. (Sept. 11, 2022) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team opened Skyline Conference action with a 2-2 draw against Yeshiva University on the road on Sunday night at Votee Park in New Jersey. The Mariners' record moves to 1-2-2 (0-0-1 Skyline) on the season, while the Maccabees go to 2-1-1 (1-1-1 Skyline) with the tie.

Game Link Freshman Wes Ferry (Newport, N.C.) and junior Miguel Millan (Lake Travis, Texas) had the two tallies for the Mariners, as the former opened the scoring on the night and the latter closed it out. Ferry was the first player to find the back of the net in the contest in the seventh minute off of a throw-in by classmate Derek Vanasse (Camarillo, Calif.).

The Maccabees tied the game up at 1-1 in the 33rd minute and the score remained the same into the halftime break.

Yeshiva then took a 2-1 advantage in the 59th minute, but Millan found the equalizer for USMMA in the 72nd minute off another throw-in by Vanasse.

It was an action-packed final 18 minutes, with the two teams combining for nine shots, five by the Mariners and four by Yeshiva. The Mariners had two of those on goal, the first by Millan in the 74th minute and the second by freshman Michael Hofstetter (Deer Park, N.Y.) in the 79th, but they were both turned aside by YU senior keeper Nicolas Dlugach. While the Macs had the final shot of the game, on goal in the 90th minute that senior Chase Miller (Boise, Idaho) stopped.

Miller and Dlugach both ended the night with five saves each, as they earned the draws between the posts.

The Mariners' next game is this coming Wednesday night, Sept. 14, when they play host to Medgar Evers College at 7 p.m. at Bartoszek Field. It will be the second game of a doubleheader with the women's team. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Men's Soccer Schedule Page.
