Men’s Soccer Wins Big Over Medgar Evers At Home

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 14, 2022) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team put forth their best performance of the season thus far by easily taming the Medgar Evers Cougars, 10-0, on Wednesday night. USMMA triumphantly improved to 2-2-2 overall, while the Cougars dropped to 0-4.
 
Game Link Freshman Will Ferry (Newport, N.C.) had the game of his young career by tallying with five goals and adding one assist. Ferry recorded a natural hat-trick in a remarkable three-minute and 25-second span to skyrocket Merchant Marine's lead to 5-0 at the 20:53 mark.
 
Senior Connor Damaré (Slidell, La.) who had scored two goals his entire college career coming into the game, was hot on Ferry's heels for star of the night. He notched his first-career hat trick and dished out one assist. The Mariners' other two goals on the night came from freshman Clayton Ecalono (Pleasant Grove, Utah) in the 19th and 33rd minutes. The game was 8-0 at halftime.
 
Also chipping in offensively with assists were sophomore Mark Sommer (St. Louis, Mo.) with two, and classmate Gio Tallini (Westbury, N.Y.) and freshman Billy Castoro (Garden City, N.Y.) with one apiece.
 
In net, junior Ashton Carey (Pasadena, Md.) faced four shots, two of which were on goal which he turned aside to preserve his blank sheet. The Cougars' freshman keeper Louis Caiola made five saves in the losing effort.
 
Up next for the Mariners is another home, non-conference game, this time against Baruch College this Saturday night, Sept. 17. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bartoszek Field. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Men's Soccer Schedule Page.
