POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Sept. 10, 2022) – Earlier on Saturday, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's volleyball team split action at a tri-match hosted by Vassar College, beating the host Brewers, 3-0, in the opener before falling to Muhlenberg, 3-2, in the second match. The Mariners' record moves to 3-1 on the season after the split.

Senior setter Claire Hyun (Issaquah, Wash.) dished out a match-best 18 assists in the victory.

In the loss against the Mules, Merchant Marine actually won the first two sets by identical scores of 25-20, and were on the verge of winning the third and taking the match, but saw a late 21-17 lead turn around quickly for Muhlenberg into a 26-24 victory to force a fourth set. After MC took the fourth set, 25-10, the Mules claimed the decisive fifth set, 15-5 to earn the comeback victory.
