Wohner Sets Another Program Record In Mariners 16-4 Home Win Over St. Joseph’s On Saturday

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 16, 2022) – For the second time this season, USMMA women's lacrosse senior Jessie Wohner (Norfolk, Va.) set a single-game program record, as she tallied nine goals (all in the first half) in the Mariners' 16-4 home win over Skyline opponent St. Joseph's-Long Island on Saturday. She passed the old mark of eight set twice by Meredith Willard '19 in both 2016 and 2018 and tied by herself twice earlier this year.

Merchant Marine wins its fourth-straight and moves to 7-2 overall (3-0 Skyline) on the season, while the Golden Eagles fall to 2-6 (1-3 Skyline) in defeat.

Game Links Wohner finished the day with 10 points, as she also added an assist. Junior Julia Coughlin (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) added a career-high five goals to go along with one helper for six points, while classmate Jenna Turrentine (Kennesaw, Ga.) and sophomore Kaitlyn Latchaw (Phoenix, Md.) both had a goal and an assist apiece. Junior Jaqui Sheedy (Baltimore, Md.) and senior Maddie Schmidt (Mechanicsville, Va.) also chipped in offensively, each recording one assist.

Sheedy secured a game-high nine draw controls, while Schmidt registered five. Turrentine was the game-leader with four groundballs and junior Jacqueline Radcliff (Orlando, Fla.) caused three turnovers to lead all players. Junior goalie Hope Germanakos (Lynbrook, N.Y.) made seven saves for the victory.

For SJC, senior Emily O'Mara had a team-best three points with two goals and one assist. Grad. student Alexandra Ehrhart picked up a team-high three groundballs and freshman Deirdre Carney secured three draw controls to lead the Golden Eagles.

The Mariners will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon, April 19, when they travel up to the Riverdale section of the Bronx to take on Skyline opponent Mount St. Vincent. Opening draw is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Dolphins' Athletic Field at Marillac. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Women's Lacrosse Schedule Page.
