Women’s Lacrosse Downs Mount St. Vincent, 19-4, Tuesday Night

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 19, 2022) – Wearing their away blues as the "road team" at Brooks Stadium for their Skyline matchup with Mount St. Vincent, the USMMA women's lacrosse team scored 17 of the last 18 goals in the contest in a 19-4 rout of the Dolphins on Tuesday night. The Mariners fifth-straight win improved their record to 8-2 (4-0 Skyline), while CMSV fell to 4-4 in defeat.
 
Game Link The two teams traded the first six goals of the game, and it was actually the Dolphins that held three leads early include a 3-2 advantage at 7:02 of the first quarter before the Mariners' long stretch of tallies. Merchant Marine scored five-straight into the early part of the second before surrendering Mount St. Vincent's final goal of the game at 12:04. Then it was all USMMA, as the Mariners scored 12-straight to end the night.
 
For Merchant Marine, senior Jessie Wohner (Norfolk, Va.) once again had a double-digit point performance with eight goals and three assist for 11 points. She also caused a game-high four turnovers and picked up four groundballs. Juniors Julia Coughlin (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), Jenna Turrentine (Kennesaw, Ga.) and Jaqui Sheedy (Baltimore, Md.) also produced multi-point nights – Coughlin with four goals and three assists for seven points, Turrentine with three and two for five, and Sheedy finding the back of the net twice while also dishing out two helpers for four points.
 
Junior Jacqueline Radcliff (Orlando, Fla.) tallied her first-career goal and freshman Lauren Jablonowski (Levittown, N.Y.) also found the twine in the victory. Senior Maddie Schimdt (Mechanicsville, Va.) helped the Mariners secure possession by winning 10 draw controls, which tied for her career-high, while also causing three turnovers and picking up two groundballs. Senior Helen Davis (Dagsboro, Del.) also had three CTs and picked up four GBs, while Sheedy and Turrentine both tied for the game-high with five groundballs. Junior goalie Hope Germanakos (Lynbrook, N.Y.) made four saves for the win.
 
For the Dolphins, all the offense went through two players who both had three goals and two assists each – juniors Colleen MacNeil and Ashley Teal. Sophomore goalie Katherine Hungerford tied Sheedy and Turrentine with a game-high five groundballs and freshman Alicia Rodriguez led CMSV with four draw controls and two caused turnovers.
 
The Mariners will host rival SUNY Maritime this Saturday, April 23, for the annual Sound Shootout. First draw against the Privateers is set for 12-noon at Brooks Stadium.
