PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (March 26, 2022) – The USMMA baseball team lost a pair of games on the road to Skyline Conference opponent St. Joseph's-Long Island, 10-2 and 14-5, on Saturday at the Golden Eagles' Alfano Field. In defeat, the Mariners' record drops to 5-11 (0-2 Skyline), while SJC improves to 3-4 (2-0 Skyline) with the victories.

Game 1 Highlights
- The Mariners' two runs came by way of a lead-off home run by junior Joey Zanetti (Richmond, Va.) in the first and an RBI-single by freshman Garrett Clapsaddle (Murphy, N.C.) that plated junior Jared Chambers (Houston, Texas) in the seventh.
- Chambers had two of the Mariners' five hits in the game, going 2-for-5 with a lead-off double in the seventh.
- Sophomore Tyler Reistetter (Dickinson, Texas) suffered the loss after tossing four innings, while senior Jared Johnson (Warrenton, Va.) hurled the final two innings.
- For the Golden Eagles, juniors Ryan Decoursey and John Lynch both knocked in two runs apiece, Decoursey's by way of a two-run homer in the third. Junior Phil Krpata led all players in the game with three runs and senior Czeczotka tossed a complete game allowing two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts.
Game 2 Highlights
- The Mariners fell behind 4-0 in the first inning, but they got back three of those runs over the next two innings.
- Senior Brayden O'Connell (Beaver Dams, N.Y.) hit his second home run of the season, a two-run shot to right in the second that scored Chambers, before senior Noah Herdman (Naperville, Ill.) had a run-scoring single in the third that brought in freshman Derek Vanasse (Camarillo, Calif.).
- St. Joe's hung three runs in the bottom of the third, however, and freshman Travis Leatherwood's (Catonsville, Md.) single in the fifth brought in the last two runs for the Mariners, plating Herdman and Reistetter.
- Leatherwood and O'Connell both finished with a team-high two hits each, both of O'Connell's were for extra bases – a homer and a double.
- Freshman Jacob Syversen (Land O' Lakes, Fla.) suffered the loss on the mound.
- SJC sophomore Joe Sanguedol had a game-high three RBIs, while four more Golden Eagles knocked in two runs apiece. Sophomore Nicholas Dellitalia earned the victory after tossing 3.1 innings in relief.
The Mariners are right back at it tomorrow, Sunday, March 27, when they travel to West Harrison, N.J., to take on Skyline opponent Yeshiva University in a doubleheader beginning at 12-noon at Silver Lake Park. Any live links for the game will be available on
