KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Feb. 26, 2022) – All cylinders clicked for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's lacrosse team in their 13-2 home win over Arcadia on Saturday to kick off the 2022 season.

In her first game since 2019, senior Jessie Wohner (Norfolk, Va.) led all players with seven points on six goals and one assist. She was one of six Mariners with multi-point afternoons.
 
Sophomore Julia Coughlin (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and freshman Morgan Tracy (Cambridge, Md.) both had three points, Tracy by way of a hat-trick and Coughlin with a goal and two helpers. Juniors Phoebe Cho (Fairfax, Va.) and Jacqui Sheedy (Baltimore, Md.) both found the back of the net once, while also dishing out an assist, and senior Helen Davis (Dagsboro, Del.) had two helpers. Junior Jenna Turrentine (Kennesaw, Ga.) rounded out the Mariners' scorers with one goal.
 
Defensively, Sheedy had a game-high four caused turnovers, while also leading all players by picking up seven groundballs. Turrentine was right behind with six GBs. Senior Maddie Schmidt (Mechanicsville, Va.) secured a game-best five draw controls. In goal, junior Hope Germanakos (Lynbrook, N.Y.) made five saves to pick up her first collegiate victory.
 
For the Knights, Ashley Starkey scored both goals, while Skylar Acker had one assist. Sophomore goalie Emily Griffith made 13 saves in the losing effort and had a team-best three groundballs.
 
The Mariners return to action next Saturday, March 5, when they travel up to New London, Conn., to take on Connecticut College. Opening draw is scheduled for 12-noon.
