DANBURY, Conn. (Oct. 9, 2022) – On Sunday, the USMMA men's soccer team lost on the road at undefeated Western Connecticut State, 1-0, at the Wolves' Westside Athletic Complex. The defeat drops the Mariners' record to 4-4-5, while WestConn improves to 14-0 on the year.

Despite what the final score would indicate, the host Wolves dominated play throughout the afternoon. They outshot the Mariners by a 24-4 count and also racked up 11 corner kicks, while the visitors collected just two.

The lone goal of the day came off the foot of WCSU senior Payton Blynn in just the third minute.

Merchant Marine was able to muster up three shots on goal, two by freshman
Clayton Ecalono (Pleasant Grove, Utah) and another by classmate
Drew Boukidis (Matthews, N.C.). In goal, junior
Ashton Carey (Pasadena, Md.) got the start and made five saves in the opening 45 minutes. Senior
Chase Miller (Boise, Idaho) played a scoreless second half and made three stops.

All three rostered goalies saw playing time for WestConn, combining for three saves.

Up next, the Mariners hit the road once again on Tuesday night, Oct. 11, when they travel up to take on Skyline foe Sarah Lawrence College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Fleming Field in Yonkers, N.Y. If any live links for the game become available they will be posted on
