KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 5, 2022) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's volleyball team took care of business at home against visiting St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Wednesday night in Skyline Conference action, defeating the Bears, 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-13). With the win, the Mariners' record moves to 8-4 (4-1 Skyline), while SJB falls to 4-8 (3-2 Skyline).

Brittany Breland (Bryan, Texas) led the way for Merchant Marine with a match-high 12 kills and a team-best 12 digs for her third double-double of the season. Senior
Paige Smith (Virginia Beach, Va.) added seven kills and 10 digs, while classmate
Claire Hyun (Issaquah, Wash.) dished out 34 assists. Both Smith and Hyun tied for the match-high with three service aces each.
For St. Joseph's, sophomore Martina Urgo had a team-best six kills, while also picking up 11 digs. Senior libero Carol Melo led all players on the night with 13 digs and freshman setter Rachel Meltsin recorded 14 assists.
The Mariners will travel to Chester, Pa., this Saturday, Oct. 8, to take part in a tri-match hosted by Widener University. They'll face Stockton University at 2 p.m. before squaring off against the host Pride at 4 p.m. at Widener's Schwartz Center Gym.
