YONKERS, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2022) – After totaling 10 goals in its previous two games, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's soccer team was held scoreless in a 3-0 loss on the road at Sarah Lawrence College. USMMA saw its record go to 8-6-1 (3-6-1 Skyline), while SLC improved to 11-3-2 (8-0-1 Skyline).
Margaret Ripperger (McKinney, Texas) totaled 13 saves in goal for USMMA, while
Jinae Teria (Chalan Pago, Guam) and
Jasper Schineller (Tempe, Ariz.) each had a shot on goal.
After Ripperger made a save in the 2nd minute, the Gryphons took a 1-0 lead in the 5th minute on a goal by Viktoria Balbin. Sarah Lawrence College pushed the advantage to 2-0 as Grace Carter found the back of the net in the 11th minute. Ripperger saved the next five on-target shots to keep it a two-goal game at halftime.
Ripperger added six more saves before USMMA had a great chance to get on the board in the 75th minute. A Mariner corner kick set up a shot for Schineller, but a defensive save kept USMMA off the board. Teria then had a shot saved by keeper Maya Pfeiffer in the 81st minute.
Following one more Ripperger save, Lainie Cadieux tallied a goal in the 88th minute for the final 3-0 margin.
The Mariners return home and conclude the regular season on Oct. 26 with a 7 p.m. game against Yeshiva. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on
