KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 26, 2022) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's soccer team closed out their inaugural season with a triumphant 10-0 victory over the Yeshiva Maccabees. With the win, the Mariners finished the campaign with a 9-6-1 overall record and a 4-6-1 mark in conference play. In what was not Yeshiva's final game of the season, the Maccabees fell to 0-11 overall and 0-10 in Skyline play.

USMMA blitzed Yeshiva early on thanks to two goals apiece from sophomores
Natalie Colpoys (Rochester, N.Y.) and
Jinae Teria (Chalan Pago, Guam). Teria's tallies were her seventh and eighth of the season.
Up 4-0 under 27 minutes into the game, Merchant Marine kept their foot on the gas. After a goal from senior
Cassidy Jester (Denton, Texas) made it 5-0 to close the first half, an own goal by Yeshiva put the Mariners up six at 9:15 into the second half.
USMMA kept pressuring the Yeshiva defense as the Maccabees mistakenly left Colpoys open with room to operate. With her first career hat trick in her sights, the Mariners' sophomore let it fly and beat Yeshiva goalkeeper Sophie Dubin upstairs to make it 7-0 Merchant Marine. Colpoys' hat-trick tallied her fifth, sixth and seventh goals of the season. The Merchant Marine offense was not done just yet.
In her final career game, Jester put together a night to remember at Bartoszek Field. With help from Teria on a no-look backwards kick pass, Jester slammed home her second of the night. Hungry for her second-career hat trick, it took the Mariners' captain all of three minutes and 52 seconds to complete it on a goal very similar to Colpoys' hat-trick tally.
To put a bow on the season, senior
Angie Nguyen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) saw the field for the first time in her career after being sidelined all season. Good things come to those who wait as the saying goes. A long shot by freshman
Emma Cox (Huntingtown, Md.) was fought off by Dubin, but deflected to a wipe-open Nguyen. With 3:45 remaining, the senior knocked in the rebound for her first-career goal.
In what was a strong building year for USMMA women's soccer club, head coach
Carlos Mendes admires the mentality of his team and sees great pastures ahead for this team.
