KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 11, 2022) – In a match that lasted just an hour and five minutes, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy swept visiting Skyline Conference opponent Old Westbury, 3-0, on Tuesday night at the Liebertz Gymnasium. The victory improves the Mariners' record to 9-6 (6-1 Skyline), while the Panthers fall to 4-6 (2-3 Skyline) in defeat.

USMMA took advantage of a total of 25 attacking errors by Old Westbury, as the visitors hit -.126 on the night. On the other side, the Mariners hit at a .282 clip and really controlled play throughout the night, winning 25-10, 25-13 and 25-15.

Amy Jones (Roscoe, Ill.) had a team-best .714 hitting percentage, putting down five kills on seven attempts with no errors. Senior
Paige Smith (Virginia Beach, Va.) led all players on the night with 11 kills on .429 hitting, while junior
Brittany Breland (Bryan, Texas) just missed out on a double-double with nine kills and a match-high 10 digs.

Claire Hyun (Issaquah, Wash.) dished out 27 assists and picked up seven digs, and sophomore
Elizabeth Kay (Charleston, W.Va.) contributed four kills on the evening.

The Panthers were led by freshman Clarissa Olivero, who recorded five kills, while classmate Rachelle Marrero had 11 assists and fellow freshman Olivia Baumann was the team's defensive star with seven digs.

The Mariners are back in action on Thursday night, Oct. 13, when they travel up to Bronxville, N.Y. to take on Sarah Lawrence in another Skyline match.
