KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 13, 2022) – The USMMA women's volleyball team rebounded after dropping the first set at Sarah Lawrence, 27-25, to win the next three rather convincingly, 25-10, 25-14, 25-9, to win their 10th match of the season, 3-1. The Mariners are now 10-6 (7-1 Skyline) on the year, while the Gryphons fall to 10-10 (3-2 Skyline) with the loss.

Three Merchant Marine players recorded double-doubles in the victory, as senior
Paige Smith (Virginia Beach, Va.) led all players on the night with 18 kills to go along with 15 digs, junior
Meredith Buchanan (Kathleen, Ga.) registered 13 kills and 16 digs and senior
Claire Hyun (Issaquah, Wash.) dished out a match-high 42 assists while also picking up a team-best 21 digs. Buchanan also hit at a .435 clip and was a part of five blocks.

Brittany Breland (Bryan, Texas) added 14 kills, senior libero
Skyler Burnham (Reading, Pa.) had 16 digs and sophomore
Virginia Robert (Lynchburg, Va.) chipped in with six kills on a team-high .455 hitting percentage.

The Mariners led the first set by eight points, 24-16, and needed just one more point to win. However, Sarah Lawrence battled back and scored eight-straight to tie it up before taking three of the next four to take the set.

The next three sets quickly went in favor of USMMA.

For the Gryphons, freshman Athena Kazos put down a team-best seven kills, while junior Mia Rector dished out 18 assists. Junior libero Kaille Ferguson led all players on the night with 33 digs.
