KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 25, 2022) – The USMMA wrestling team lost its final home dual match of the season on Tuesday night over nationally-ranked NYU, 34-6, at the Liebertz Gymnasium. In defeat, the Mariners' record drops to 1-2, while the #13 Violets improve to 12-1 with the win.
The visitors quickly built up a 12-0 lead thanks to a forfeit win at 125 followed by a last-second pin at 131. The NYU advantage grew to as large as 30-0 with clean sweeps through the 174-pound weight class.
Merchant Marine finally got on the board when senior
Billy Sims (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) earned a 7-1 decision at 184.
After a major decision loss at 197, the Mariners closed out the night with a narrow 3-2 decision win thanks to the riding time point by sophomore
Jimmy Dunagan (Boulder City, Nev.).

The Mariners return to action this Saturday, Jan. 29, when they travel to Centennial Conference opponent Ursinus College to take part in the first league duals weekend.
