Box Score

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (Jan. 18, 2022) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's basketball team picked up a head-turning 84-71 road victory over Skyline Conference opponent Farmingdale State on Tuesday night at the Rams' Lynch Center Gym. The win improves the Mariners' record to 7-6 overall (4-2 Skyline), while FSC falls to 8-7 (4-2 Skyline) in defeat.

Four different players scored in double-digits for USMMA, as sophomore Bryce Bristow (Plano, Texas) led the way with 18 points, while also tying for the team-high of seven rebounds with senior Blaine McDonough (Marietta, Ga.). Freshman Isaac Vencel (Bloomington, Ind.) drained 15 points and tied classmate Kody Robinson (Woodbridge, N.J.) with a team-best four assists, and Robinson and McDonough both contributed 10 points apiece.

The Mariners were down by as many as five points just under seven minutes in, 14-9, but answered with a 9-2 run that put them ahead by seven, 23-16 at 10:06. After seeing the advantage fall to just one point three minutes later, 23-22 at 7:00, Merchant Marine exploded out to a double-digit lead with a 17-4 run that made it 40-26 with under a minute to play. The Rams cut it back to a 10-point game before halftime, 40-30, with back-to-back layups late.

USMMA was held to just three points in the first seven-plus minutes of the second half and Farmingdale tied the score up at 43-43 at 13:38. After scoring the next 10-straight points, the Mariners never saw their lead fall under eight points the remainder of the night, and a three-pointer by Robinson at 2:18 gave them their largest lead of the night, 16-points, 75-59, and they cruised on to the victory.

For the Rams, sophomore Aaron Davis led all players on the night with 19 points, while classmate Tre Riggins added 16 and fellow sophomore Nick Hurowitz scored 15 points and brought down a game-high eight rebounds.

Up next, the Mariners will host Skyline North Division opponent Purchase College this Thursday night, Jan. 20, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Liebertz Gymnasium. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Men's Basketball Schedule Page.
