KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 20, 2022) – The USMMA men's basketball team picked up its sixth win in the last seven games on Thursday night, defeating visiting Skyline North Division foe Purchase College, 75-43, at the Liebertz Gymnasium. The Mariners now sit two games above .500 at 8-6 (5-2 Skyline) in a virtual tie for first place in the division, while the Panthers drop to 2-10 (2-3 Skyline) after the loss.

Sophomore Bryce Bristow (Plano, Texas) tied for the game-high with 15 points on 6-for-7 shooting from the field, while also grabbing down six rebounds and recording three steals on the night. Two Merchant Marine players added nine points each, senior Jack Bucher (Carlisle, Pa.) and sophomore Gavin Green (Flower Mound, Texas), while three others had eight points apiece - freshman Kody Robinson (Woodbridge, N.J.), senior Isaiah Nix (Yorktown, Va.) and junior Dante Spina (Miami, Fla.). Nix also led all players on the boards with seven rebounds.

The Mariners never trailed throughout the evening, as they built up a 5-0 lead quick that turned into a 24-4 advantage just over nine minutes in. After leading by 29 at halftime, USMMA didn't led the Panthers get closer than 21 points in the entire second half, as the Mariners cruised to the victory.

The play of the game was an alley-oop off the backboard on a fast break by freshman Isaac Vencel (Bloomington, Ind.) that was put down on a dunk by Bristow in the first half. You can watch that play at this link. Vencel finished the night with a game-high three assists.

Purchase, who shot just 25.5% from the field (12-47), was led by senior Malcolm Hansford-Whyte, who scored 15 points in just 20 minutes after quickly getting in foul trouble early and then fouling out midway through the second half. Junior Terrence Mason brought down a team-best

The Mariners will host Skyline South Division opponent Mount St. Vincent this Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Liebertz Gym. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Men's Basketball Schedule Page.
