Mariners Sail Past Purchase On The Road, 6-0, Wednesday Night

PURCHASE, N.Y. (Sept. 22, 2021) – The USMMA men's soccer team made it four wins in a row with yet another shutout, this time it was a 6-0 victory on the road over Skyline opponent Purchase College on Wednesday night. The Mariners' record moves back over .500, as they improve to 5-4, 2-0 Skyline, while the Panthers fall to 1-2 (0-1 Skyline) in defeat.
 
Merchant Marine held a 3-2 advantage in shots through the first 20-plus minutes before senior Abram Ehrhorn (Papillion, Neb.) recorded back-to-back goals in the 24th and 25th minutes. His first tally was assisted by classmate David Kelly (Lutherville, Md.), while freshman Derek Vanasse (Camarillo, Calif.) had the helper on the second goal.
 
In the second half, a pair of goals by junior Ben Davis () sandwiched one by freshman Maximillian Farris (Clayton, Ga.). Vanasse registered his second assist on Davis' first goal, and sophomore Miguel Millan (Lake Travis, Texas) assisted on Davis' second.
 
Millan closed out the scoring in the 70th minute after finding the back of the net off an assist by Farris.
 
Junior keeper Chase Miller (Boise, Idaho) worked his fourth-straight blank sheet (second solo shutout), as he made four stops on the night. His counterpart for Purchase, freshman Travis Stella made five saves in the losing effort. The Mariners outshot the Panthers, 21-6, including an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal.
 
Up next, the Mariners will take on SUNY Old Westbury this Saturday, Sept. 25. The game will be played at Farmingdale State College and is slated to begin at 11 a.m. Any links for the game will be posted on the USMMA Men's Soccer Schedule Page.
