KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 20, 2021) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team got back to .500 on Monday night, as the Mariners cruised past visiting Medgar Evers College, 9-0, in their final non-conference action of the season at Bartoszek Field.
 
A total of 14 different players got on the scoresheet for USMMA (4-4), with freshman Wesley Cooke (Mobile, Ala.) leading the way with five points on two goals and an assist. Sophomore Declan Byrne (Severna Park, Md.) and freshman Aden Knight (Ocean Springs, Miss.) both had a goal and two assists for three points, and six others had two points apiece on one goal each for sophomores Miguel Millan (Lake Travis, Texas) and Joseph Maraska (Haymarket, Va.), as well as freshmen Derek Vanasse (Camarillo, Calif.), Jason Healy (King George, Va.) and Gio Tallini (Westbury, N.Y.), and two assists for junior Jack Remark (Pittsburgh, Pa.).
 
Five others added helpers on the night – seniors Luke Sturtz (Norman, Okla.), Abram Ehrhorn (Papillion, Neb.), Michael Melton (Denver, Colo.) and David Cozad (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and freshman Mark Sommer (St. Louis, Mo.).
 
In net, three keepers combined for the shutout without even facing a shot on goal – junior Chase Miller (Boise, Idaho) was the goalkeeper of record, while sophomores Ashton Carey (Pasadena, Md.) and Carson Bushnell (Yuba City, Calif.) both preserved the clean sheet.
