PURCHASE, N.Y. (Sept. 16, 2021) – The USMMA women's volleyball team began Skyline Conference play on Thursday night with a sweep over Purchase College on the road, 25-16, 25-15, 25-14. The victory improves the Mariners' record to 6-1 (1-0 Skyline), while the Panthers fall to 0-2 (0-1 Skyline) with the loss.
 
In her first career match, senior Sierra Steffen (Encinitas, Calif.) led all players on the night with 11 kills on an impressive .588 hitting percentage to go along with seven digs and three blocks. Classmate Brittney Pinzon (Fullerton, Calif.) recorded a double-double with 24 assists and a match-high 10 digs.

The Mariners hit at a .250 clip on the night, recording a total of 29 kills to Purchase's 13. The Panthers were also held to a -.130 hitting percentage over the match.
 
Senior Gia Gwin led Purchase with four kills, while classmate Karina Medina dished out 10 assists and tied for the team-lead with seven digs.
 
The Mariners have the weekend off from competition and will return to action with a home match against Mount St. Mary College next Tuesday, Sept. 21, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Liebertz Gymnasium.
