BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Oct. 6, 2021) – The USMMA women's volleyball team swept Skyline Conference opponent St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on the road Wednesday night, 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-11). The win is the Mariners' seventh-straight and moves their record to 14-3 (6-1 Skyline), while the Bears fall to 4-4 (2-2 Skyline) in defeat.
Senior
Paige Smith (Virginia Beach, Va.) led all players on the night with 15 kills on an impressive .609 hitting while also tying for the team-high with six digs and leading the squad with three service aces. Sophomore
Brittany Breland (Bryan, Texas) and senior
Sierra Steffen (Encinitas, Calif.) both added eight kills each, with Breland hitting at a .548 clip and adding five digs. Senior
Brittney Pinzon (Fullerton, Calif.) dished out a match-high 18 assists, while junior
Claire Hyun (Issaquah, Wash.) had 10 helpers. Hyun also tied Smith for the team-best six digs.
As a team, the Mariners hit .354 on the night (40 kills-11 errors-on 82 attempts) and held St. Joe's to just .016 hitting (14 kills-13 errors-on 64 attempts).
The Bears were led by freshman Martina Urgo, who had seven kills, while junior setter Kaitlyn Intindola recorded 11 assists and sophomore Grace Kane picked up a match-best nine digs.
After having this weekend off from competition, the Mariners will return to action next Tuesday night, Oct. 12, with a road Skyline match against Old Westbury that will actually be played at Farmingdale State College.
