FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (Oct. 12, 2021) – The USMMA women's volleyball team earned a 25-11, 25-17, 25-12 victory over Skyline Conference opponent Old Westbury on Tuesday night in a match played at Farmingdale State's Lynch Sports Center. The win was the Mariners' eighth in a row and improved their record to 15-3 (7-1 Skyline), while the Panthers fell to 3-6 (2-4 Skyline) in defeat.

Two Merchant Marine players tied for the match-high with eight kills – junior
Paige Smith (Virginia Beach, Va.) and sophomore
Brittany Breland (Bryan, Texas). Smith hit at an impressive .471 on the night, while also leading the Mariners with 10 digs, and Breland added seven digs and a match-best four service aces.

Sophomore
Meredith Buchanan (Kathleen, Ga.) added five kills, and seniors
Sierra Steffen (Encinitas, Calif.) and
Juliet Vendl (Colorado Springs, Colo.) both chipped in with four kills apiece. Senior
Brittney Pinzon (Fullerton, Calif.) dished out a team-high 13 assists, while junior
Claire Hyun (Issaquah, Wash.) had 11 helpers.

The Mariners held the Panthers to just .011 hitting on the night (20k-19e-92ta), while also holding the advantage in service aces (9-2) and blocks (5-1). Vendl had a match-best three blocks, while Steffen, Smith and sophomore
Amy Jones (Roscoe, Ill.) put down two apiece.

For Old Westbury, senior Daesha Garrison led the way with five kills, while sophomore Cameron McGinn had a match-best 26 digs and senior Ally Parker led all players on the night with 14 assists.

The Mariners return to action on Thursday night, Oct. 14, with a home Skyline match against Sarah Lawrence that will begin at 7 p.m. inside the Liebertz Gymnasium. Live stats and a live video feed of the match will be available with links on
