BRONX, N.Y. (Oct. 18, 2021) – The USMMA women's volleyball team used a boat from the Kings Point Waterfront to sail over to rival SUNY Maritime College for their Skyline Conference match on Monday night and defeated the Privateers in straight sets, 25-16, 25-10, 25-12. The victory improved the Mariners' win-streak to 10 matches, moving their record to 17-3 overall (9-1 Skyline), while Maritime fell to 4-12 (2-6 Skyline).
 
The Mariners hit at a season-best .419 hitting percentage on the night with 40 kills on 74 attempts with just nine errors.
 
Senior setter Brittney Pinzon (Fullerton, Calif.) had a match-high 21 assists, while also picking up six digs and serving up two service aces. Junior Paige Smith (Virginia Beach, Va.) recorded 14 kills to lead all players on the night and hit at a .478 percentage with eight digs, and sophomore Brittany Breland (Bryan, Texas) put down seven kills and registered a match-best six service aces.
 
Sophomore Meredith Buchanan (Kathleen, Ga.) had five kills on .444 hitting, senior Juliet Vendl (Colorado Springs, Colo.) added four kills and sophomore Amy Jones (Roscoe, Ill.) was a perfect 3-for-3 on attempts. Senior Shelby Bowman (Redmond, Wash.) tied Smith for the match-high with eight digs.
 
For Maritime, sophomore Jessica Mele had a team-best seven kills, and junior Brooke Kirchner dished out 12 assists. Freshman Victoria Cordero picked up a team-high five digs.
 
The Mariners will host Yeshiva University this Thursday night, Oct. 21, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Liebertz Gymnasium. Live stats and a live video feed of the match will be available with links on the USMMA Women's Volleyball Schedule Page.
