Men’s Soccer Shuts Out Sarah Lawrence, 2-0, At Home On Tuesday

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 12, 2021) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team shut out visiting Sarah Lawrence College, 2-0, on Tuesday night in Skyline Conference action at Bartoszek Field. With the victory, the Mariners' record improves to 9-6 (6-2 Skyline), while the Gryphons' dropped to 4-9 (2-5 Skyline).
 
Senior Abram Ehrhorn (Papillion, Neb.) led the Mariners with three points on the night with a goal and an assist, while classmate Michael Melton (Denver, Colo.) recorded assists on both of USMMA's tallies. Freshman Maximilian Farris (Clayton, Ga.) opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the year.

Farris found the back of the net in the 25th minute after a corner kick sequence that saw Melton take the kick from the left, then the ball bounced to Ehrhorn just past the right post and he fired a shot hard towards the middle of the goal area that Farris deflected in.
 
Ehrhorn double the Mariner lead in the second half with a 60th-minute tally. He perfectly timed his jump on a free kick by Melton and headed the ball into the back of the net for his team-leading seventh goal of the season.
 
The best chance that Sarah Lawrence had was in the first half, by freshman Julian Day, who fired a shot from just outside the penalty area that junior keeper Chase Miller (Boise, Idaho) had to jump for, but the shot caromed off the crossbar. Miller didn't face a shot on goal on the night and earned his ninth shutout of the season (fifth solo).
 
SLC's freshman keeper Kian Silva made seven saves in the losing effort.
 
Up next, the Mariners will host Skyline opponent Yeshiva University this Sunday, Oct. 17, in the final home regular season game of the season. Prior to opening kickoff, the Mariners will pay tribute to their graduating seniors with a special Senior Day ceremony. Kickoff against the Maccabees is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Bartoszek Field.
