FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (May 7, 2024) – The fifth-seeded USMMA baseball team was held off 3-2 by #1-seed Farmingdale State on Thursday night on Day 1 of the Skyline Championship. The Mariners fall to 22-15 while the Rams improve to 25-9.

How It Happened
Farmingdale State struck first in the second inning with an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.
The Rams added to their advantage in the fifth inning, plating two runs on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Mariners mounted a late rally in the eighth inning. Freshman Drew Davis (Springboro, Ohio) ripped an RBI double down the left field line to cut the deficit to 3-1. Moments later, freshman Jason Brown (Marlton, N.J.) recorded an RBI groundout to trim the lead to 3-2. USMMA threatened with two men on in the top of the ninth, but Farmingdale State was able to hold off the comeback attempt and secure the 3-2 victory.

- Junior Landon Troutt (Fairfield, Calif.), sophomore Luke Kruer (Sellersburg, Ind.), freshman Ryan Melton (Newnan, Ga.), Davis, and Brown all recorded a hit in the contest.

- Freshman Baxter Hamilton (Sugar Land, Texas) went 4.1 innings, allowing three runs and striking out one batter. The Blue and Gray bullpen combined to allow no runs over the final 3.2 innings. Freshman Levi Reale (Woodbridge, Va.) tossed a scoreless sixth inning with one strikeout, while sophomore Louis Inserra (Coplay, Pa.) threw a perfect seventh inning. Classmate Travis Campbell (Alba, Texas) also delivered a scoreless eighth inning and recorded one strikeout.
- Thomas O'Neill earned the win for the Rams, allowing no runs over 5.2 innings with two strikeouts, while Derek Watts secured the save after tossing 3.1 innings and striking out three batters.
