PURCHASE, N.Y. (May 2, 2026) – The USMMA baseball team earned a split in their Skyline Conference doubleheader up at Manhattanville University on Saturday afternoon. The Mariners finish their regular season 21-14 (13-7 Skyline) while the Valiants move to 27-12 (14-6 Skyline).

Game 1 Highlights
- The Mariners struck first in the second inning as freshman Ryan Melton (Newnan, Ga.) delivered an RBI double to give the Blue and Gray a 1-0 lead. Moments later, freshman Axel Prechel (Corvallis, Ore.) followed with an RBI single to extend the advantage to 2-0.
- Manhattanville responded in the bottom of the second inning with a run on a sacrifice to cut the deficit to 2-1.
- USMMA added to its lead in the third inning when senior Charles Cahalan (Overland Park, Kan.) drove in a run with an RBI single to make it 3-1.
- The Valiants broke the game open in the fourth inning, scoring five runs on three hits and taking advantage of an error and a wild pitch to take a 6-3 lead.
- The Mariners battled back in the fifth inning with a three-run rally. Sophomore Braden Vazquez (Missouri City, Texas) launched a solo home run, followed by an RBI single from freshman Jason Brown (Marlton, N.J.) and an RBI walk from Prechel to tie the game at 6-6.
- Manhattanville regained the lead in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly, which proved to be the difference as the Valiants secured the 7-6 victory.
- Cahalan led the Mariners with a game-high four hits, while Vazquez recorded two hits.
- Prechel paced the Blue and Gray with two RBIs.
- Cahalan also led KP with two runs scored.
- Vazquez added a home run in the contest.
- Junior Landon Troutt (Fairfield, Calif.) and Prechel each recorded a stolen base.
- Freshman Luke Sems (Oronoco, Minn.) went 3.2 innings, striking out three batters, while classmate Levi Reale (Woodbridge, Va.) tossed a scoreless inning with one strikeout.
- Ryan McCann earned the win for Manhattanville, throwing two scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

- The Mariners struck first in the second inning as freshman Davin Fulton (Houston, Texas) delivered a sacrifice fly to plate the game's first run. Vazquez followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0.
- Manhattanville got on the board in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI walk to cut the deficit to 2-1.
- Merchant Marine broke the game open in the fourth inning with a five-run outburst. Junior Christian Gamez (Kent Island, Md.) delivered a two-run single, followed by RBI singles from Cahalan and Brown to push the lead to 7-1.
- The Mariners added four more runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by RBI singles from Troutt and sophomore Luke Kruer (Sellersburg, Ind.) to extend the advantage to 11-2.
- Manhattanville chipped away with three runs across the fifth and sixth innings to cut the deficit to 11-5.
- The Blue and Gray put the game out of reach in the eighth inning with a seven-run frame. Kruer delivered a two-run single, freshman Nathan Whitworth (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) added a two-run single, and freshman Drew Davis (Springboro, Ohio) capped the inning with a two-run single to extend the lead to 18-5.
- The Blue and Gray registered a season-high 22 hits. Cahalan, Brown, and Prechel led the way with three hits each, while Gamez, Kruer, Davis, and Vazquez each recorded two hits.
- Seven different Mariners recorded multi-RBI games, with Whitworth and Kruer leading the way with three RBIs each. Cahalan, Brown, Gamez, Davis, and Troutt each drove in two runs.
- Four players scored multiple runs, with Prechel and Troutt each scoring a team-high three runs, while Cahalan and Kruer both crossed the plate twice.
- Merchant Marine stole six bases in the contest, with Troutt leading the way with two, while Vazquez, Kruer, Cahalan, and Fulton each recorded one.
- Junior Tommy Chiappetti (Buckeye, Ariz.) earned the win, tossing two innings, allowing one run with one strikeout. Freshman Sullivan Dunn (Mendham, N.J.) allowed one run with a strikeout, while classmate Michael Brown (Dumfries, Va.) threw a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. Sophomore Travis Campbell (Alba, Texas) pitched a scoreless eighth inning and struck out one batter.
