Mariners Earn Wire-To-Wire Win Over Old Westbury While Scoring A Season-High In Points

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 21, 2026) – The USMMA women's basketball team scored a season-high 95 points and allowed a season-low 21 points in a home Skyline Conference victory over Old Westbury on Wednesday night at the Liebertz Gymnasium. With the W, the Mariners' record moves to 13-4 (10-2 Skyline), while the Panthers fall to 2-10 (1-10 Skyline) after suffering the loss.
 
Game Links Five players scored in double-figures for Merchant Marine, with senior Hannah Ramsden (Port Aransas, Texas) and freshmen Lilly Smeltzer (Bel Air, Md.) tying for the game-high with 15 points. Smeltzer's was on 7-of-10 shooting and she just missed out on a double-double with nine rebounds, while Ramsden was 6-of-11 with a trio of 3-pointers and five assists.
 
Junior Emily Grasseler (Millbrook, N.Y.) added 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting and sophomores Carolae Barton (Waldorf, Md.) and Breanna Sommers (Casa Grande, Ariz.) both scored 11 points each – Barton on 5-of-6 shooting while also grabbing 13 rebounds for a double-double and blocking four shots, and Sommers on 5-of-9 shooting to go along with six boards and tying for the game-high with six assists.
 
All 10 players for the Mariners contributed offensively, as freshman Jaden Lodice (Littleton, Colo.) scored eight points, junior Sydney Brown (Northville, Mich.) had seven, freshmen Natalie Doan (Mount Dora, Fla.) and Tatum Carney (Fairfax, Va.) added five apiece, and senior Cevyn Crutcher (Huntsville, Ala.) scored four points and brought down five rebounds. Carney also tied Sommers for the game-high with six assists.
 
The Mariners never trailed in the contest and shot an impressive 53.8% on the night, including a 40.9% clip (9-of-22) from 3-point range and out-rebounded the Panthers, 56-16. Old Westbury shot just 15.4% on the night (8-for-52).
 
Junior Endya Greene scored a team-best 14 points for OW, while senior Korrina Plair brought down eight rebounds to lead the Panthers.
 
Merchant Marine returns to action this Saturday, Jan. 24, when they travel to face St. Joseph's-Brooklyn at 12-noon at the Bears' Hill Center Gymnasium.
