KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 20, 2019) – Led by a pair of NCAA qualifying marks by junior diver Gillem McMillan (Knoxville, Tenn.), the USMMA men's swimming & diving team earned a home victory over Skyline opponent Old Westbury on Wednesday night at the O'Hara Hall Pool in the Mariners' 2019-20 season-opening meet.
Prior to the action, the Merchant Marine swim & dive program celebrated the memorable 2018-19 season with a special ceremony honoring the Mariners' six returning All-Americans – seniors Nolan Monahan (Stafford, Va.) and Caelin Weaver (Olive Branch, Miss.), juniors Jack Higgins (Needham, Mass.), Daniel Moore (Riverview, Fla.) and Jack Welch (Chesapeake, Va.) and sophomore Patrick Tolloti (Dover, Ohio). The Mariners won every single event in the meet. Below are the highlights.
- McMillan won both the one-meter dive (276.68) and the three-meter dive (313.13) in NCAA qualifying score
- Freshman Davis Caldwell (Isle of Palms, S.C.) earned his first collegiate wins in the 1000 free (10:17.76) and the 500 free (5:02.86)
- Freshman David McCranie (Woodbridge, Va.) won the 200 free in 1:49.51 for his first collegiate win
- Monahan won the 50 free (21.45) and the 100 breast (57.53)
- Senior Michael Moore (Los Alamos, N.M.) won the 200 IM (2:04.27)
- Weaver won the 100 fly (1:36.63)
- Welch won the 100 free (48.74)
- Sophomore Matthew Mizell (Merritt Island, Fla.) won the 100 back (54.22)
- The 200 medley relay team of Weaver, Monahan, freshman William Schneider (Canton, Ohio) and McCraine won in 1:36.63, while the 200 free relay team of Schneider, McCraine, freshman Jack Pellegrino (Cape Coral, Fla.) and Weaver touched first in 1:27.60

The Mariners are back in action this Saturday, Nov. 23, when they host the annual USMMA Memorial Invite beginning at 11 a.m. at the O'Hara Hall Pool.
