Mariner Women Produce Strong Second-Place Finish At Purchase Invite

PURCHASE, N.Y. (Sept. 8, 2018) – On Saturday morning, the USMMA women's cross country team claimed second place at the Purchase College Invitational up in Westchester County. The Mariners finished the meet with 68 points, ahead of all six other Skyline teams that ran at the event, but behind Coast Guard, however, who placed first with 15 points. 

Freshman Robin King (Raymond, Ohio) paced the Mariners with an eighth-place finish in the 6K race with a time of 25:00.5. Classmate Brooke Jorstad (La Crosse, Wis.) came in 12th in 25:36.6 and fellow plebe Anna Grafton (Belmont, N.H.) was 16th after crossing in 25:51.4. 

A pair of upperclassmen rounded out the scoring for Merchant Marine, as junior Anna Lewis (Lakehead, Calif.) placed 21st in 26:23.5 and senior Kelsey Ramirez (Stevensville, Mich.) was right behind in 22nd in 26:41.0.

Up next, the Mariners will take part in the NYIT Invitational next Saturday, Sept. 15, on the campus of NYIT in nearby Old Westbury, N.Y. First race is scheduled for 11 a.m.
