USMMA jumped out to a 10-2 advantage before a short 5-0 rally by Purchase brought the score within three points, 10-7. That was the closest the Panthers would get as the Mariners took the first set 25-14.
USMMA earned another early lead in the beginning of the second set, climbing to 5-1. Purchase chipped away at the gap but was only able to come within three points on three occasions. The last being at 8-5, before the Mariners rolled on a service ace from Kappas and points by sophomores Brittney Pinzon (Fullerton, Calif.) and Cadee Fromm (Enid, Okla.), and Smith to post 11 unanswered points, 19-5. The run was interrupted by a Mariners service error, but USMMA quickly rebounded to close out the set on a 6-0 run, 25-6. The third and final set started and finished in a similar fashion to the previous two. Although the Panthers earned double-figure points, the Mariners controlled the set and handily won, 25-10.
For the Panthers, Samantha Fasciae led with four kills and an ace and Esmee Johns picked up a match-high 11 digs.
