Numerous ECAC Marks Hit, Vandermeer Sets New 100m Record To Lead Mariners At TCNJ Invite On Saturday

EWING, N.J. (April 6, 2019) – The USMMA women's and men's track & field teams took part in the TCNJ Invitational in New Jersey on Saturday. There were no team scores kept at the event, but the Mariners had numerous ECAC qualifying marks reached and top-20 finishes on both sides, one Academy record broken on the women's side and one first-place finish on the men's side.

Junior Alexa Vandermeer (Grove Heights, Minn.) became the new Academy record holder for the 100m with a time of 13.35. Vandermeer now holds the most Academy records for any single female in Academy history.

The following Mariner women hit ECAC qualifying marks in their respective events:

  • Freshman Madison Reddick (Baker, Mont.) in the javelin [fourth place - 36.81m (120' 9")]
  • Junior Kaleigh D'Arcy (White Plains, N.Y.) in the 800m (14th place - 2:27.27)
  • and senior Kelsey Ramirez (Stevensville, Mich.) in the 800m (16th place - 2:28.14)

Other noteworthy performances on the women's side were by freshman Anna Grafton (Belmont, N.H.) in the 1500m (ninth place - 5:10.13) and classmate Brooke Jorstad (La Crosse, Wis.) in the 3000m (ninth place - 11:15.27).

The following Mariner men hit ECAC qualifying marks in the 110m hurdles:

  • Senior Kijona Henley (Smithfield, Va.) with a time of 17.19
  • and freshman David Cozad (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) with a time of 18.71

The first-place finish on the men's side came in the hammer by senior David Collins (North Kingstown, R.I.) with a hurl of 50.31m (165' 1").

Other great finishes were by sophomore Ivan Goretoy (West Warwick, R.I.) in the hammer [fourth place - 47.82m (156' 11")], freshman Tyler Pittman (Albuquerque, N.M. ) in the 3000m steeplechase (fourth place - 10:11.34), senior Jesse Byorth (Billings, Mont.) in the javelin [fifth place - 48.11m (157' 10")], freshman Jordan Lucas (Littleton, Colo.) in the 3000m (eighth place - 9:19.70) and junior Zachary Polliard (Brighton, Colo.) in the long jump [10th place - 6.28m (20' 7.25")].

For the women, there were 10 top-20 finishes. They are listed below.
