Alfheim serves as the Athletic Trainer for Football, Wrestling and W. Lacrosse.
Rob Alfheim was promoted to Associate Athletic Trainer in 2020 after serving as an Assistant Athletic Trainer with USMMA since 2004. He also served as an intern at the Academy in 2001. As an Associate Athletic Trainer, Alfheim is responsible for evaluation, prevention and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for all Varsity Mariner athletic programs.
Prior to returning to USMMA, Alfheim served as a graduate assistant at Northern Illinois University, where he received a M.S.Ed in Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Physiology. At NIU, he was responsible for the evaluation, prevention, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for 16 Division I sports, specifically, Women's Volleyball, Baseball, Football and Wrestling.
While obtaining his Bachelors degree in Human Movement and Sports Science at Sacred Heart University, Alfheim worked as a student athletic trainer. He learned his craft while working with the Football, JV Hockey, Baseball and Track and Cross Country teams.
A licensed athletic trainer by the State of New York, Alfheim is certified by several organizations including the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) and has multiple certifications through the American Red Cross including as an Instructor.
In addition to his athletic training duties, Alfheim is responsible for the instruction of all USMMA Midshipmen in First Aid and Medical Care Provider for their Coast Guard Licensing exams.
Alfheim currently resides in Sea Cliff, N.Y., with his wife Mary and their daughters, Alice and Violet.
