Setting the Scene... The USMMA women's basketball takes to the road this weekend for back-to-back Landmark Conference games at Scranton and Moravian.  The Mariners will be looking to snap a four game skid, which includes a one-point loss in their conference opener against Goucher.  Both teams enter the weekend 1-0 in league play while Moravian boasts a conference best 7-1 record and seven game winning streak.

Series History...
Merchant Marine has never defeated the Royals as Scranton holds a 13-0 edge in the all-time series.  USMMA holds a 3-9 record in its history against the Greyhounds.  However, Moravian swept last year's meetings and has not dropped a decision to the Mariners since the 2008-09 season.

Leading the Nation...
Merchant Marine currently leads all of NCAA Division III with a rebounding margin of +20.4.  USMMA outrebounded its opponent in every game this season and twice reached the 60 rebound plateau.  Rebecca Resor (Bay St. Louis, MS) anchors the team with 11.0 rebounds per game while senior Demi VanDerWal (Springfield, IL) has 8.8 boards per game.  Last time out against NJCU, Resor grabbed 13 rebounds and VanDerWal totaled nine.

Comebacks Falling Short...
In each of the last two games, the Mariners have attempted comebacks that have fallen just short.  In their match-up with NJCU, Merchant Marine trimmed down a 17-point deficit in the second half to just five points.  USMMA went ahead of Goucher with 30 seconds remaining after closing a nine-point margin at the 3:58 mark.  However, the Gophers made a layup with three seconds remaining to claim the one-point Landmark Conference victory.

Scouting the Royals...
Meredith Masaris is the anchor of the Scranton offense, averaging 19.0 points per game.  Sarah Payonk has proven herself a double threat, posting 16.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.  The Royals have also been careful with the ball in 2013-14, turning the ball over under 13 times per game.

Scouting the Greyhounds...
Moravian currently has three players averaging double figures in points in Alexis Wright (14.8), Danielle Brogan (12.9), and Katie O'Rourke (11.1).   The Greyhounds are a perfect 3-0 at home, winning those games by an average of 14.6 points.
