PRINCETON, N.J. (Feb. 16, 2019) – On Saturday, the USMMA men's track & field team took part in the Princeton Invitational in New Jersey at the Tigers' Jadwin Gymnasium. Team scores were not kept at the event, however the Mariners saw a couple of noteworthy finishes throughout the day.
Senior David Collins (North Kingstown, R.I.) had the top individual finish for Merchant Marine, as he came in fourth place in the weight throw with a toss of 15.02m (49' 3.5"). Sophomore Ivan Goretoy (West Warwick, R.I.) placed right behind his fellow Rhode Islander in fifth place with a mark of 14.75m (48' 4.75").
The 4x800 relay team of freshmen Nicholas Arima (Honolulu, Hawaii), Lucas Jordan (Littleton, Colo.), Brennan Shute (Annapolis, Md.) and Tyler Pittman (Albuquerque, N.M.) came in fourth place with a time of 8:35.79.
Arima also placed eighth in the 1000 meter run in 2:44.11, while fellow freshman Aodhan Meyer (South Kingston, R.I.) came in 10th in the same race in 2:53.12 and freshman Ian Russo (Greensboro, N.C.) also had a 10th-place showing in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:09.03.
