MAHWAH, N.J. (April 18, 2019) – The USMMA tennis team lost its non-conference matchup on the road at Ramapo College, 8-1, on Thursday afternoon. In defeat, the Mariners' record drops to 5-4, while the Roadrunners improve to 9-5.
The lone victory of the day for Merchant Marine came at the #6 singles flight by junior Blaine Mueller (Meridian, Miss.). He came out on top of Ramapo's Matt Borenkoff, 7-6, 6-3, and moves to 4-1 in singles action on the season.
Three other matches were pretty close decisions, as the #1 doubles pairing of senior Daniel Zakrevski (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and freshman Connor Campbell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) narrowly lost, 8-7, junior Justin McGaffigan (Quincy, Mass.) and senior Branden Deeter (Truckee, Calif.) at #2 doubles fell by just an 8-5 score and Deeter at #5 singles lost in three sets – 6-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6).

The Mariners' next match is next Tuesday, April 23, at home against Skyline Conference opponent Mount St. Mary. First serve is slated for 4 p.m. at the Brooks Stadium Courts. Prior to action, the USMMA tennis program will pay tribute to its five graduating seniors.
