Men’s Swim & Dive Ranked #18 In The Nation In CSCAA Top 25 Coaches Poll

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (March 7, 2019) – The final College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll was released on Wednesday evening and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's swim & dive team has made an appearance in the national rankings for the first time this season. The Mariners, who are sending six swimmers to the NCAA Tournament later in March, were ranked 18th in the nation, according to the poll.

Bolstered by their first-place finish at the Metropolitan Conference Championship Meet in late February, which included finishing ahead of regional powerhouses TCNJ and Rowan, coupled with a head-to-head dual victory over then-#14 Rowan in early February, the Mariners' resume throughout the final month has thrusted the team into the national spotlight.

USMMA ranks highest out of the four teams that were not ranked in the previous poll (Jan. 30), as TCNJ came in at 20th in this latest poll, followed by John Carroll at 21st and Carthage at 23rd. Rowan dropped from 14th in the nation to 24th.

In addition, diving coach Johan C. Lopez has one diver, sophomore Gillem McMillan (Knoxville, Tenn.), serving as an alternate after for nationals.
