Milner Repeats As Skyline Defensive Player Of The Year To Headline Mariners’ Six All-Conference Honorees

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 12, 2019) – For the second-straight year, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy senior goalkeeper Matthew Milner (Mount Airy, Md.) was selected as the Skyline Conference Defensive Player of the Year, the league announced when it released the year-end award winners and All-Conference Teams on Monday.

A total of six Mariners were honored, as Milner and sophomore defender Abram Ehrhorn (Papillion, Neb.) earned First Team All-Skyline accolades, while seniors forward Nick Roros (Northport, N.Y.) and defender Sam McGill (Canton, Ohio) and juniors midfielder Zach Lysakowski (Reading, Pa.) and defender Luke Sturtz (Norman, Okla.) were selected to the Second Team. Additionally, Milner was the Mariners' representative on the Skyline All-Sportsmanship Team.

Milner started nearly every game and compiled a record of 10-6-1 with a goals against average of 1.05 and a save percentage of .772 to go along with six total shutouts (four solo and two assisted). He was named the Skyline Defensive Player of the Week once (Sept. 9) and has landed on the weekly honor roll three times (Sept. 3, Sept. 30 & Oct. 7). The senior had a long shutout streak of over 480 minutes throughout the first six games of Skyline action.

Ehrhorn, McGill and Sturtz were part of the Mariner defensive unit that allowed just 22 goals all season, a mark that ranks second among Skyline Conference schools. The defense helped suppress quality chances during Milner's long shutout streak, helping the team to win a season-best five straight games in late September-early October.

In his first year playing collegiate soccer, Roros – a standout on the USMMA men's lacrosse team – saw his great success from lax carry over onto the soccer pitch. He led the Mariners with 16 points on seven goals and two assists. Three of his tallies were game-winners, which tied for fourth among Skyline players.

Lysakowski, the Mariners' quick outside midfielder, ranked second on the Mariners with 15 points on five goals and a team-best five assists. His helpers often came on his great transition game, moving the ball through the midfield along the sidelines. The junior was selected to the Skyline weekly honor roll once this season (Sept. 24).
