OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Oct. 5, 2019) – The USMMA men's soccer team defeated Old Westbury, 1-0, on the road Saturday afternoon in Skyline Conference action. The win improves the Mariners' record to 8-3 (5-0 Skyline), while the Panthers drop to 3-7-1 (1-4 Skyline) with the loss.
Senior goalkeeper Matthew Milner (Mount Airy, Md.) extended his shutout streak to 444:50 after yet another blank sheet. He faced just three shots from the Panthers on the day, but none of them were on goal.
The Mariners outshot OW, 15-3, and the game-winning goal came off the head of junior Zach Lysakowski (Reading, Pa.) in the 39th minute. Lysakowski connected off of a cross from senior Matt McCurnin (Newark, Del.).
The defense stood tall the entire 90 minutes, forcing away nearly all offensive opportunities that the Panthers sought.
Up next, the Mariners will host Farmingdale State this Wednesday, Oct. 9, for a Skyline Conference showdown beginning at 7:45 p.m. at Brooks Stadium. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Men's Soccer Schedule Page.
