KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 13, 2018) – The USMMA men's soccer team capped off Senior Day with a great 5-0 victory over visiting St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Saturday at Brooks Stadium. In victory, the Mariners improve to 9-3-2 (5-2-1 Skyline), while the Bears fall to 4-11 (1-5 Skyline) after suffering the loss.

Prior to the game, the soccer program honored its five graduating seniors with a special Senior Day Ceremony celebrating the careers of Sam Ney (Vicenza, Italy), Neil Painter (New Cumberland, Pa.), Joe Springer (Bowie, Md.), Wagner Mogga (Kiambu, Kenya) and Michael Mischler (Monroe Township, N.J.)

In the action on the field, the Mariners wasted little time to get on the board, as Mogga chipped in a cross from Mischler in the fifth minute and then Mischler had a hand in Merchant Marine's second goal in the 22nd minute by junior Alex Madonna (Gibsonia, Pa.). Madonna received a pass through two defenders and fired low to the right for the tally that doubled the Mariner lead in the 22nd minute.

USMMA tacked on two more before the end of the half - one by junior Matt McCurnin (Newark, Del) that was assisted by Madonna less than five minutes after Madonna's goal and then another by sophomore Joe Clark (Baltimore, Md.) assisted by McCurnin in the 39th minute.

Early in the second half, sophomore Zach Lysakowski (Reading, Pa.) rounded out the scoring on the day in the 50th minute off a pass from junior David Germain (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y.)

The Mariners outshot the Bears, 20-6, on the afternoon with an 11-5 advantage in shots on goal. Junior keeper Matthew Milner (Mount Airy, Md.) and freshman reserve keeper Alvaro Herrera Padilla (Panama City, Panama) combined for the shutout. They both made two saves in the game.

For St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, sophomore goalkeeper Alejandro Oliveros made six saves on the day, while classmate Kenneth Garcia led the Bears with three shots, including one off the crossbar in the 32nd minute when it was a 3-0 game.

The Mariners will play their final home game of the regular season this coming Tuesday, Oct. 16, against defending Skyline Champion Mount St. Mary. The two teams are tied for second place in the Skyline standings. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. Live stats and a live video stream of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Men's Soccer Schedule Page
